Notifications

TetherX sends push notifications (iOS/Android) and emails to keep you informed about your security system.

Type Description
Account Login alerts, password resets, welcome emails
Health Equipment offline, system issues, health reports
Events Analytics alerts from armed cameras (motion, intrusion, ANPR)

Tip: Event notifications require both user preferences enabled AND arming the relevant sites/cameras.

Who Receives Notifications

Who an alert reaches depends on the user type and, for standard users, which cameras and sites they can access. See User Types for what each type is.

Notification User Operator Admin Integrator
Account emails (welcome, password reset)
Event shared with you
TetherBox, camera or monitored device offline With access
Analytics alerts from armed cameras Optional Optional
ANPR (number plate) alerts With access
Alarm panel activations and state changes With access
Scheduled Health Report Optional
Login alert at sign-in Own Own Own

Key: ✓ = On by default | With access = On by default, but only for the cameras and sites the user can access | Optional = Off by default, can be enabled | Own = Only the user's own sign-in | – = Not received

Note: Admins and integrators receive health, event and alarm alerts across their whole timeline. Standard users receive them only for the cameras, zones and sites they have been given access to. Analytics alerts are off by default for everyone except admins, and can be switched on per user. Admins are also alerted when users on their timeline sign in (if Notify on Login is enabled); integrator and staff sign-ins are not reported to admins.

Tip: Operators do not receive push or email notifications. Control-room operators work live events through the operator console queue, and supervisors receive escalations and Call Supervisor handovers inside the console, not as notifications. See Control Rooms and the operator guide.

Configuring Your Notifications

  1. Click your profile icon (top-right) → select your profile Click profile icon

  2. Open the Permissions & Notifications tab

  3. Configure your preferences: User notification settings

  4. Click Update User

Available Settings

Setting Description
Notify on Login Email when you sign in from a new device/browser
New TetherBox Activation When a TetherBox is activated on your timeline

Setting Description
TetherBox Health Connectivity and hardware issues
Camera Health Disconnections and stream problems

Tip: Offline notifications have a delay before alerting - 3 minutes for cameras (allowing time for internal maintenance and reboots) and 15 minutes for TetherBoxes (to account for brief connection outages). Adjust these delays in Cameras → select camera → Details tab, or TetherBoxes → select unit → Settings tab.

Event Notifications

Setting Description
Analytics Notifications Motion, intrusion, line crossing events
ANPR Notifications Number plate detection alerts
Delivery Method Push only, email only, or both

Tip: Fine-tune which event types trigger notifications using Camera Notification Settings.

Alarm Panel Integration

Setting Description
Alarm Panel Activations When alarms are triggered
Alarm Panel State Changes When panels are armed/disarmed

Managing Other Users' Notifications

Admins and integrators can configure notifications for users in their organisation:

  1. Go to AdminUsers Settings menu showing Users

  2. Click the user's name to open their profile - every setting on the unified user page is edited inline by clicking the value, no separate edit screen Users list - click a name to open the unified profile

  3. Open the Permissions & Notifications tab and adjust any notification preference - changes save automatically as you make them

Tip: Set the Timeline filter to "All" when searching across multiple timelines.

Arming Sites and Cameras

Arming controls whether event notifications are sent. Both the site and the camera must be armed.

Arm a Site

Go to Sites and toggle the Armed slider:

Sites page with arm toggles

Arm a Camera

Cameras have two separate controls:

Control Options Purpose
State Off / Monitor / Record Whether the camera records footage
Armed On / Off Whether notifications are sent

Tip: The Armed toggle only appears for cameras with analytics enabled. To receive notifications, the camera must be set to Record AND have Armed enabled.

From Camera Details

Go to Cameras → select camera → Details tab:

Camera details showing armed toggle

Automatic Account Emails

These emails are always sent and cannot be disabled, regardless of your notification preferences:

Email When it's sent
Welcome Account created - contains activation link
Password reset Requested from login page
Suspicious login Multiple failed login attempts detected
Planned maintenance Before scheduled service maintenance

Reducing False Notifications

Wind, foliage, shadows and rain can set off basic motion. TetherX filters these at source with TetherX AI, camera analytics, image masks and per-camera notification settings. See Reducing False Notifications for the full guide.

Stopping Notifications

Platform Notifications

On the Permissions & Notifications tab (see Configuring Your Notifications for where it is), turn on Pause all notifications. This master switch stops every push and email notification at once and hides the individual options until you switch it back off. Changes save automatically.

To stop only some alerts, leave the master switch off and turn off the individual settings instead.

Note: Automatic account emails such as activation and password resets are not notifications and always send.

Marketing Emails

Click Unsubscribe at the bottom of any marketing email.

Billing Emails

Sent from TetherX accounting systems for outstanding financial matters. These stop automatically once resolved.

Troubleshooting

Not receiving notifications?

First, the checks that apply to every notification type:

  • Pause all notifications is switched off (Permissions & Notifications tab)
  • The specific notification type is enabled in your preferences
  • For push: the TetherX app has notification permission on your device. For email: check spam/junk
  • Standard users only receive alerts for the cameras and sites they can access - confirm you have access (see Who Receives Notifications)

If it is specifically an event or analytics alert (motion, intrusion, ANPR), also check:

  • The site AND the camera are both armed
  • The camera is set to Record, not just Monitor
  • The event type is not in the camera's Always Ignore list

If it is a health alert (something offline), allow for the delay before it fires: 3 minutes for cameras, 15 minutes for TetherBoxes.

Too many notifications?

See Reducing False Notifications to filter false alerts at source with TetherX AI, analytics, masks and per-camera settings.

Note: Push notifications are near-instant. Email delivery depends on your provider - check spam/junk if emails are delayed.
