Q2 2024 Release Notes
April - June 2024
Highlights
This quarter focuses on TetherBox provisioning overhaul, platform experience improvements, and performance optimisations.
- 16-300x faster updates for TetherBoxes, especially on suboptimal networks
- Location pins and notes system across the interface
- 10-15% performance boost from caching and permissions consolidation
User-Visible Changes
Event Handling
- If an event is manually closed by an operator, the system now forces creation of a new event, instead of grouping recordings/triggers into the recently closed one.
- Internal performance improvements make the Events interface more responsive.
TetherX Platform
- Add a location pin anywhere a location is mentioned, allowing you to quickly see where the location is.
- Add ability to add notes to zones, locations and TetherBoxes - notes icon appears across the interface for items that have notes.
- Add a status icon to the camera name anywhere a camera is mentioned to quickly show if it is experiencing issues.
- You can now play recordings in fast speed or in reverse on Google Chrome (previously only on Safari).
- Clicking on a thumbnail opens Events much quicker.
- Correctly account for Daylight Savings when searching for presets such as "Morning" or when specifying a time range.
- Improve styling for the context menu in dark mode.
- Allow holding ctrl (Windows) or cmd (Mac) to open multiple Cameras or Events in new background tabs.
- The Control Room page under Admin now shows correctly in Dark Mode.
- The geolocation of a TetherBox no longer overwrites a manually entered address.
- The full address is now displayed in the location table.
- Various improvements and polish including re-arranging and cleaning up the information in columns of the Health page, Camera table, Device table, removing duplicate information and more.
- All camera issues are now consolidated into an icon at the start of the camera name, allowing you to see all detected problems in one place.
Tip: Should you face any errors, the platform now shows friendlier, more detailed diagnosis information making it easier for you to report problems.
PicoFlex
- New I/O box that allows you to connect multiple digital and/or analog inputs for applications such as water detection, detecting if a fire alarm button was pressed, temperature sensors and more.
iOS and Android Apps
- Fix an issue with it being impossible to dismiss a dialog on the mobile app when editing a camera.
Tunnelling
- The tunnelling feature was reworked internally to be faster and more reliable.
- Show an IP when creating a tunnel instead of the domain for better compatibility.
- Do not show tunnels that have expired and no longer exist.
- Admins are now allowed to create tunnels to network Devices, not just integrators - giving another value add for end Users.
Notifications
- Fix bug where an offline email claimed a TetherBox was rebooted when it wasn't.
TetherBoxes
- Brand new TetherBox updating and provisioning code that updates units between 16-300x faster than before, especially in suboptimal network conditions.
- TetherBoxes now scan known IPs before trying to find new ones, showing the status of Devices much quicker after a boot up.
- Upgrade to PostgreSQL 16 on TetherBoxes for a performance boost and faster database recovery after power cuts.
- The offline TetherBox interview now operates more reliably with more browsers. Also fixing an issue with live view on Google Chrome.
- Improvements to the Drives tab on the TetherBoxes, especially when viewed from smaller screens like mobile phones.
- Performance optimisation for running TetherBox software on Raspberry Pis.
Camera Compatibility
- Add support for Cameras with a single relay (previously only multiple relays were supported).
- Correctly detect and add support for older buggy ONVIF implementations on older Cameras.
- Add support for recent Hanwha Cameras and recorders.
Bug Fixes
- Fix bug with camera schedule time zones - while working correctly on the TetherBox, live view would be blocked in the platform for TetherBoxes on non GMT/UTC timezones.
Internal Changes
- All cloud infrastructure servers were upgraded from older versions of Linux to Ubuntu Server 22.04 and 24.04.
- New caching implementation that gives about 10-15% boost in performance loading many pages on the platform.
- Internally the permissions logic was cleaned up and consolidated - Users with limited permissions will experience about a 10-15% performance boost loading Events and live view.
