Getting Started for Integrators
Welcome to TetherX. This guide introduces the platform and helps you get started with installations and ongoing support.
What is TetherX?
TetherX is a unified security platform that connects surveillance systems, alarm panels, access control, and monitoring centres into one cohesive solution. See Supported Devices for the full list of integrations.
TetherX as the connector:
Think of TetherX as the "tether" that binds disparate systems together. Different sites may have different equipment - various camera manufacturers, legacy DVRs, alarm panels, and access control systems. TetherX connects them all, providing:
- Cross-site visibility - Monitor multiple customer sites from a single dashboard
- System interoperability - Connect cameras, alarms, and access control regardless of manufacturer
- ARC integration - Send alerts to IMMIX, Sentinel, CONXTD, or HikCentral
- Remote access - Remote access to any IP device on site without port forwarding
TetherX as a standalone solution:
TetherX also works as a complete end-to-end solution with:
- Web platform - Full-featured browser interface at any screen size
- Native apps - iOS and Android apps for live view, playback, and notifications
- Cloud recording - Offsite backup with customisable retention
- Control room interface - Built-in operator interface for real-time monitoring with keyholder notification and police response
Tip: TetherX can work alongside existing systems without disruption, or over time customers may choose to consolidate onto the TetherX platform entirely.
Connectivity Made Simple
TetherX eliminates the networking headaches that traditionally plague remote surveillance:
| Challenge | TetherX Solution |
|---|---|
| Device APIs | Unified API for live video, recordings, events, and device control |
| Port forwarding | Not required - all connections outbound via secure tunnel |
| Static IP | Not required - works with dynamic IP, 4G/5G, corporate networks |
| VPN setup | Not required - access via web browser or native apps |
| Firewall configuration | Minimal - only outbound HTTPS required |
| Firmware vulnerabilities | Devices not exposed to Internet - automatic security updates |
| Multiple logins | Single login to all sites a user has permission to access |
| Site visits for updates | Over-the-air updates to TetherBox and connected devices |
| Lost configuration | Configuration stored in cloud - migrate between units or push to hundreds of devices |
Tip: If someone on site can access google.com, TetherBox can connect. No network changes required.
Built for reliability:
- All communication encrypted via VPN with 4,096-bit SSL certificates
- No data lost during Internet outages - automatic sync when connectivity returns
- Certificates automatically revoked if suspicious activity detected
- Two-Factor Authentication with minute-by-minute audit logging
See our Security Whitepaper for details on how TetherX keeps sites secure.
